Cooking in Real Life

I had all these dreams about coming home from work and making spectacular meals for my new husband. (You can read all about my recent newlywed adventures here: Parked On The Freeway)  Very quickly I was slapped with reality the first Monday back at work and in real life as a newlywed.  I commute to work and by the time I stopped at the store and got dinner on it was already almost 7pm.  I made a lovely if not a little bland dinner of talapia, salad and potatoes.  It was bland because we didn't have everything I needed, like salt and pepper.  Nothing was done at the same time.  I couldn't figure out the oven temperature and it was cooking everything weird.  Dorothy, we aren't at Mom's house anymore!
I was a little frustrated and started to cry, but hubby reassured me it was fine.  We didn't finish eating until almost 8pm.
Fortunately, my other half is a good cook and makes meals when I just can't get home at a reasonable time or am stressed out about what in the world I'm going to make.  I'm always proud of myself when I put together a delicious meal and have it done before 8pm!  I have finally gotten things together enough to use my slow cooker and we ate teriyaki chicken and rice from it! Hubby says it's a keeper!  Now I need to find more slow cooker recipes so dinner will be ready for us on hectic week nights.  Maybe one of these days I'll even have time to get back into my favorite hobby of baking! Now that would be amazing!
Oh if only I could be a housewife and stay home and bake, cook, clean(yes, weird I actually like keeping the house nice), and maybe having babies to take care of...wait...this isn't the 1950s? Darn. Oh well, for now I'll remain excited about my slow cooker and finding quick meals!
I'm off to think about what in the world to do for dinner tonight!
